Alumina-mullite bricks are manufactured from high-purity electrofused alumina and high-quality mullite as the primary raw materials, and are formed under high pressure and sintered at high temperatures. The primary crystalline structure consists of an interwoven network of corundum (α-Al₂O₃) and mullite (3Al₂O₃·2SiO₂) phases, combining the high-temperature resistance of corundum with the thermal shock resistance of mullite. This makes them the material of choice for the flame zones and medium-to-high-temperature areas of glass melting furnaces.
Key Features:
Excellent Thermal Shock Resistance: The composite structure of mullite and corundum effectively buffers thermal stress, ensuring the product does not crack or spall under rapid cooling and heating conditions, and adapts to the frequent temperature cycling requirements of kilns.
High High-Temperature Strength: The corundum phase provides excellent high-temperature mechanical strength, while the mullite network structure offers outstanding creep resistance, resulting in minimal deformation under prolonged high-temperature loads.
Good Resistance to Corrosion: It exhibits good chemical stability against alkaline vapors, acidic atmospheres, and glass dust, and does not powder or delaminate even after prolonged exposure in the flame zone.
Pure and Low-Contamination: Low impurity content ensures no glass phase leaches out at high temperatures, preventing contamination of the furnace atmosphere. Ideal for furnace areas requiring high purity of the molten glass.
Precise Dimensions and Easy Installation: Precision-ground after high-temperature sintering, these bricks feature tight dimensional tolerances, allowing for tight joints during masonry work and high installation efficiency.
Applications:
Upper structures of glass melting furnaces (breast walls, front walls), burner bricks, inspection port bricks, thermocouple bricks, flue linings, and medium-to-high-temperature zones not in direct contact with molten glass. Widely used in float glass, bottle and jar glass, tableware glass, and specialty glass melting furnaces.
