Silica brick is a traditional shaped refractory material manufactured from high-quality silica raw materials through high-temperature calcination, high-pressure molding, and high-temperature sintering, boasting an SiO₂ content exceeding 93%. Its refractoriness under load exceeds 1650°C; furthermore, it exhibits slight expansion at high temperatures—a characteristic that enhances the structural integrity and gas-tightness of the kiln body—and possesses excellent resistance to acid corrosion. Characterized by high purity and minimal contamination of molten glass, this material is also available in a lightweight variant to reduce heat loss. Consequently, it serves as the preferred core refractory material for critical load-bearing, high-temperature components within glass melting furnaces—specifically the main arch, breastwalls, front walls, and regenerator crowns.

Silica bricks are manufactured primarily from high-quality quartzite, which is subjected to high-temperature calcination, high-pressure molding, and high-temperature sintering. They contain over 93% SiO₂. These products feature a high load-bearing softening temperature, excellent high-temperature dimensional stability, and strong resistance to erosion in acidic atmospheres. They are the traditional, high-quality refractory material of choice for the upper structures (domes and breast walls) of glass melting furnaces.

Key Features:

Extremely High Load-Bearing Softening Temperature: The load-bearing softening temperature can reach over 1650°C, approaching its refractoriness. It can be used for extended periods under high-temperature load-bearing conditions without deformation, making it an ideal material for the large arches of glass melting furnaces.

High-Temperature Dimensional Stability: Silica bricks exhibit slight expansion at high temperatures, effectively compensating for gaps in the kiln masonry. This ensures the kiln roof structure becomes increasingly tight during the heating process, resulting in excellent overall sealing performance.

Strong Resistance to Acidic Corrosion: They demonstrate outstanding chemical stability against acidic furnace gases, glass dust, and small amounts of alkaline vapors, making them particularly suitable for the combustion atmospheres of regenerative flame kilns.

Controllable Purity and Low Contamination: Manufactured from high-purity quartz raw materials with low levels of impurities such as Fe₂O₃, these bricks prevent the formation of melt voids or contamination of the glass melt at high temperatures, making them suitable for color-sensitive glass varieties.

Optional Lightweight Version: In addition to standard silica bricks, lightweight silica bricks are available for use in thermal insulation layers, further reducing heat loss from the furnace structure.

Applications:

Upper structural areas of glass melting furnaces that bear loads and are exposed to high-temperature radiation, such as the furnace roof, breast wall, front wall, and top of the regenerator. Widely used in flame-heated melting furnaces for float glass, bottle and jar glass, and tableware glass.
